Allocating Memory

HI all. Can someone tell me how to allocate more memory to PT.I'm running it on OS9.0.4 and have 768mb built in memory. Also,i tried to upgrade to 9.2 but had problems and had to reinstall 9. but it now seems to be a bit sluglish and the vu meters seem to be holding the notes longer(if that makes any sence).Do i have an extention conflict? In my manager,the 9.2.1 extention are disabled but should i get rid of them. Thanks for your time, Jay.

hello ahamay, I am not presently at my work desk, but this should work for you.... 1st - Locate the Pro Tools icon .. it resides in the Digidesign folder..make sure that you locate the current PTLE that you are using. After you locate the icon click on it only ONCE, then press Apple I. A window will appear that states the current condition of the PT software. Navigate to memory and on the bottom line you can write new memory allocation. I've allocated 120,000 on this line, and it runs smoothly. After you re-allocate, I can't remember if a re-boot is required, but it won't hurt. This has been a much debated subject in the past concerning how much memory is actually needed, so do a search to get a more comprehensive overview. kenny

The previous poster pretty much said it all. Also, allocate more memory to your DAE, whcih is licated in the DAE folder inside the system folder. We found for our dual 1ghz QS that 250mb(250000kb) to PT and 200mb to DAE(200000kb) was optimum, however, others have had varying results, and each model mac seems a bit different. One note, you cannot aqoolocate more RAM when the application is running. Close Protools before allocating mroe memory. A reboot is not necessary, the changes take place the next time the application is launched.
