Please Please Please. I've been on board for almost 2 or 3 years now. Can we please get some metering for the hardware outputs??? A workaround?? Something?? Thanks Peace Illumination
I agree with illacov. Levelmeters (even just small ones) should be there on all outputs and sends (especially in the routing window). I think this would look dope!
Not all soundcards offer it. I have the original 2408 and cuemix has no metering. Let's not derail the thread though. We have a visible solid gui for the tracks but any outputs are used blindly and hidden. When you route a track pre fx to a hardware out all you get is a volume slider and not even a peak indicator. Plus its only in the I/O window. Its been a long requested feature from many users to improve the I/O window and it hasn't happened yet. Sometimes in a heavy mix you don't have that last bit of juice to display your soundcard's metering gui. A much more efficient approach would simply be meters for the hardware outs along with a more realistic display of them. They should get their own visible faders as a mix set or as a part of the regular mixer window. Peace Illumination
Why don't one of your find devs doing extensions write an assignable meter bridge extension? That would be really cool. +1 though. All input and output hardware channels should have metering available aside from the recorded channel metering.
The matrix metering could as simple as this: The mixer could have extra master tracks, or the tracks that have hardware outs automatically get put next to the Master track.
Your output metering channels would only be as many hardware channels as you have available.. or choose to enable. How many people here actually use 48 hardware outs - except those mixing on a real console - and in that case the metering wouldn't be on sends it would be directly from the channels and the metering would be on the daw mixer channels. I think for most practical purposes most people would have 4-6-8 stereo pairs of hardware (send) outputs to meter at most? Cans sends and/or external recorder or monitor sends? No matter how many sends to them you create they all would go to the same meterering bus. The meter is for the output summing bus, not each individual send. I don't see a resource problem there. In fact I know it's not since I meter hardware inputs/outputs and mixer channels in multiple mixers in Cubase without an issue. I don't see Reaper underperforming Cubase in that regard.
