Hi All, I'll start by saying the hardest part of setting up a studio has been the Digi001 part. PC Dealers / Music Stores & Digidesign. The system my friend and I have just purchased is: Pentium III 700E (100mhz) Abit BE-6 Revision 2 Motherboard 128MB SDRAM (100Mhz) 20 GIG 5400rpm SEAGATE Drive for operating system / pro tools le 30 GIG 7200rpm Barracuda Seagate Drive for audio Voodoo 3 2000 Video Card (AGP) running at 800x600 resolution. Win98 Second Edition Not sure about the ATA controller. --- When we bought the system, we spoke to the computer place about the video card conflicting etc, and agreed on the Voodoo card. We asked them to make the 20Gb drive the master (primary) and the 30Gb (secondary) the slave. We asked them to disable PCI Parity, they set it so it was `Auto', in that if there was any problems it would automatically disable. We formatted both drives, then installed the operating system, putting Win98 SE on the 20gb drive. When we got home we installed the Protools software, the `Typical' one. Then we installed the demo- Be There, And after an error message about file allocation or something (which I presume isn't a critical error), we opened the demo session.. While playing the demo, (tried it about 10 or so times now) the computer completely freezes.. one time it came up with the error message (-9073 - saying the drive was either too slow or too fragmented or something). I read earlier about the whole ATA 66 & 33 thing.. what's the go there.. ? We also tried removing the plug ins, and the machine still locks up while playing. Please help, anyone? waited so long to get this thing up and going, and its not working.. feel like for the trouble we should have bought a MAC.. ------ Our local music store, who we purchased the 001 off, said it could be one of the following problems, started off by saying we should have bought an Asus board.. 1. digi001 card needs to be moved to a different slot. 2. video card conflicts said that we should have got a Matrox G400 card. 3. not enough ram ?? to be honest, its so confusing, and you'd think that there would be an easier way.. ..please help!.. About the Parity. DISABLE it in the BIOS. Don't set it on AUTO - that's looking for trouble. I would have also suggested an ASUS board. If you still get big hassles after disabeling the Parity, try to uninstall the Video display card driver, and install the Windows98SE standard PCI driver just for a test. In my years of PC audio, the video drivers were mostly the culprits! Good luck Dirk [QUOTE]Originally posted by musicfest: [B]We asked them to disable PCI Parity, they set it so it was `Auto', in that if there was any problems it would automatically disable.
The Abit BE6 and BE6-II do not have an option for PCI Parity, so don't worry about that. Most likely, you are using the built in UDMA 66 controller on the BE6-II. Therin lies your problem. That controller on that board (and on the original BE6) just DOES NOT WORK!!!! I've seen numerous posts from guys having trouble with Digi 001. At least 90% of them are trying to use a BE6 or BE6-II board. You might be able to get the board to work if you DO NOT USE the built in UDMA 66 controller. Get a PCI card controller and disable the on-board one in BIOS. I had these same problems with the UDMA 66 controller on my BE6 the day before I bought my Digi. I replaced it with an Asus P3B-F. No problems. I don't like the way Abit boards are stingy with IRQs either compared to an Asus. Good luck, Mike
Hi All, Thanks for your fast responses. Last night when I tried switching the audio drive over to an ATA33 cable the thing completely stuffed up with heaps of REALLY bad system errors (blue windows screens) and all these weird ? mark thingies.. so we're taking it to the computer shop today to get them to look at it.. probably to re install everything.. thanks for your posts, will get back to you with how it went.. any more advice would be most appreciated! Thanks, Bill Roebuck / John Mclennan
Well Digi, What about a more fair process for dealing with all of these problems we`re having with this new s/w (001-p.c.)??? I notice you respond quickly on other posts, what about an 800 ## ???? It`s only fair. You claimed it was plug and play in your adds, but i`ve had my 001 for two months and it still doesn`t work right.I`m damn tired of waiting on LONG DISTANCE for you guys to get around to my call.does it occur to you to HIRE more techs or is it bottom line time again?
hey all, thanks for your posts... after a bit --- well a lot of mucking around, we've managed to sort things out. We set both drives to ATA33 down from the HotRod ATA66 controller. That helped us get the computer working again (it was totally gone for a while there). Then we twiddled with the hardware settings in the ~setup~ menu. I'm not quite sure how it works, but by setting the CPU usage to 85, samples? to 1024 and in another menu setting the Buffer size to the smallest setting (option 0)... we it started running great. After recording our first session.. 4 tracks, guitar, guitar, bass, vocals.. , and we played it back, we got a 9094 error message.. - after 2 hours i realised I had changed the buffer setting somehow.. anyhow, set it back and all worked fine.. Also, for those who are as slow as i am- getting the help to work- go to the digidesign folder, under program files, go to document viewers and install adobe acrobat... (the help menu might work then =D ) jeffinmarin, what kind of system are you running, dont know if I can help at all, but ill try... is your audio drive running at ATA33? Try changing the buffer settings, and make sure you exit and reload (I found that helps too ) Anyhow, thanks for all your help... Can anyone help me out with making a metronome sound, I go to the transport window with the midi controls and try and get the click to work.. but I can't get any sound to come out.. do you need a MIDI device to do this? - Thanks, Bill
