1.) my setup PIII-800 Mhz 512 MB SD-RAM 120 GB HD AOpen AX63Pro motherboard Cinema Craft Encoder 2.50/2.64 cce 2.5o speed rate: ~ 0,5 - 0,54 cce 2.64 speed rate: ~ 0,3 - 0,33 2.) what i am trying to do encoding Apocalypse Now Redux (running time: 3hours 20 minutes) for 3CDs (800) VBR - 4 passes, leaving all other settings as they are in dvd2svcd (default) 3.) problems: a) when cce is encoding with 2.64 it takes ~ 11hours to finish the first time (is this the first pass or the whole 4 pass process??) then i get an error from dvd2svcd: ",, not a valid floatingpoint" then it starts again giving me the remaining time of ~ 40hours (is this the second pass??) b) when cce is encoding with 2.50 it takes ~ 9hours to finish the first time (from the size and the percentage which is beeing displayed i calculated that at the end it will be 2100MB (~3 CDs) but when finished it starts again, this time without any error (size i calculated from size and percentage -> 8000MB??) - time remaining: 20hours 4.) questions: is there anything i missed in the settings ? i mean: 1st pass - 9hours, 2nd pass - 20hours, 3rd pass - i didn't get that far, 4th pass - not even close -> like 30hours+ to convert to svcd ?? ok its a 3,5 hours movie but .. can someone please enlighten me ?? maybe some ppl can post some specs like in the cce speed rate post, like: i.e. 2 hours movie, 3vbr, athlon 1000Mhz, 512 sdram, encoding time : 12hours, speed rate 0,7 thx all my conclusions: i think the speed difference is because of the "safe mode" i used when encoding in 2.64

Sounds ok. First run is the Vaf file, which should take 2 times the length of the movie. Second run is the 4 passes, which should take 8 times the length of your movie. If CCE really runs at 0.5 throughout, it should be 2 times. Basically, encoding duration for a phase is the reciprocal of the speed faktor times the movie length.

There are other methods of encoding that can help speed things up a bit, but they will sacrifice some video quality or space on the cd's. Do a search and read the forum about CBR or 1 Pass VBR encoding. There is a ton of info to be had. A quick fix to knock off some of that time is to drop the 4 pass to 3 pass. There isn't much of a difference(but there could be some) and it will save you 2 x the movie length in encoding time based on your stated speed. Mark

@ch@@boom Are you already using Link2 for the safe mode? If not search the forum for this tool! Only problems, Link2 is bhareware and must be registered to get the full speed. Then you must find anybody who sends you the old version of Link2 cause the current doesn't really work with DVD2SVCD!?! Regards TKS
