Hi. As a new member, I wondered if anyone had problems with their V70 (53) suspension and wheels. I have a (nice) D5 SE (53 plate) which from a performance point of view I am happy with. Previously, I had a V70T (2000) which was great too. However, both cars were unstable on the rear suspension, and if cornering right and hit a hole or dip on the onside, the back-end violently kicks out. Also I am getting quite heavy tyre wear on the rear. I had my D5 to a local garage, and they say it is toeing in at the rear onside by 0.25in (aha, that explains things). However, they said there was seemingly no way to adjust it. Is this true? And if so, how do I go about fixing it without having to change complete rear suspensions. The garage also said that they'd recently had another customer in with a V70 of a similar age, with strangely very similar symptoms. Has anyone else with a V70SE had such issues? Also, I think the suspension is a little soft (and makes my rear passengers quite car sick). I did buy the SE, which apparently (according to my Volvo dealer) is quite a soft configuration. Is there a stiffer suspension kit I should consider? Any assistance would be much appreciated.

As far as I know the only thing you can't adjust is the rear camber which is why you have to settle for the knock kneed look if you lower it. Try altering the tyre pressures, the P6000s at least are very, and I mean very, sensitive to this. I've found something around 34psi front and back to be the best. My car had started to feel like a front damper had popped recently, bouncy and wandering all over the place, what it ended up being was the rear tyres had gone down to the just below the standard 30psi. Pumped them back up to 34 and the car feels like new again.

Thanks for your responses. I shall try the Pilots, and get it 4-wheel aligned. I'm also tempted by getting new struts and springs for the rear. Is volvotuninguk.com the best place?

Hi Had the same with my 54 V70D5AWD. Eventually Redditch dealer found front and rear axles pointing in different directions, dispite basic toe in apparently correct. This neads a main dealer alignment check alittle more than the local tyre company even with a laser driven machine. IPete.
