mbox horror -- please help -- digi?

Okay. This sucks sooooo bad. I've got a brand new titanium powerbook -- the new 667 mhz model. I just installed the Mbox -- did everything it said in the manual. But I can't play the demo. I hear the audio for about 3 seconds, and then I get an error message: cpu blah blah. I turned off *all* the plug-ins on the demo song, and tried again. It quite playing again after about 4 seconds. I changed the cpu usage to 85% and changed the hardware buffer size to 1024. Still no dice. I went into the memory allocation and changed the preferred settings to 120000K. It still gave up the ghost almost immediately! I'm using NO PLUG-INS and this is a TITANIUM G4. What the #$%#@? I downloaded the new USB driver from the digi site and put it in the extensions folder. I restarted the computer just for good luck. Now I can't launch pro tools AT ALL! Instead I get dae error 6008. okay seriously, if anyone can help me, please do... I'm at the end of my rope here. oh sorry the error message I was getting was like, cpu is holding off USB interrupts -- try getting rid of plug-ins and increasing the HW buffer size. I don't know what the exact message was, because I can't get into pro tools at all anymore. thanks in advance for your help. Joe

It's more than likely memory related. Click on the Answerbase and do a text search for just the error number: 6008 There are a number of answers that may help, like this one: Try adjusting the memory allocation for both Pro Tools and DAE. (start with 80 and 80 if you have 256 MB of RAM in your new mac) Any time that you crash you should delete the following from your System Folder/Preferences folder by moving them to the trash: DAE Prefs (the whole folder) DigiSetup Pro Tools prefs empty the trash.

Okay, here's what you need to do. You have to download the new mbox firmware (rev18) that will solve the cpu blahblah. you can also download the new usb driver (v 1.1) Let me know how that works.....

Guys -- one problem taken care of, one more to go. The DAE 6008 is gone -- allocating 80000k of memory to both pro tools and dae fixed that. However, I still cannot play audio for more than 10 seconds without getting "cpu usage is holding off usb audio. eliminate plug-ins, lower track count , increase H/w buffer size." I downloaded the firmware update to version 1.8. (it already said I was using 1.8, but downloaded and installed it again just in case). I have set cpu usage to 85%. I have set the H/W buffer size to 1024. What more can I do? I imported a session I started on a 001, which is just six tracks and zero plug-ins. I got the same message -- cpu is holding off usb audio. If I can't get around this usb audio problem, that's $3000 down the drain. Could it be a problem with my laptop's usb ports or cpu? Maybe they sold me a lemon? I got it brand new from an apple store. heeeeeeeeellllllppp.....

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I disabled the "allow processor cycling" option in the energy saver control panel. Now let's start making some music. woo! Joe
