How do you get a sound from it? You DI your bass and run it through the amp sim? Can you program midi notes with your mouse and have some basic bass tone go through the amp sim?

sorry for not being more clear. First, we split the signal using the SansAMP. one signal goes to our bass amp so we can hear it as we play, the other signal is a DIinto the computer and is recorded. Then, on the recorded DI track, I introduce FreeAmp3 as a plugin, and tweak the sounds further. Unfortunatley, I don't have an answer for your other questions.
I modified my bass guitar. Split signal to stereo output. Bridge pickup is going to left channel and neck pickup to right. Then I am recording two separate track with boogex and diferent IR cab. Very important is the phase knob. The sound is powerfuul and I have more option in mixing process.
Those of you using boogex/ampeg impulse, would you do us a favour and perhaps post the settings you are using. Maybe a screenshot or maybe you could save it as a track template and upload to stashbox or something? I am not getting it to work for me so I would be grateful for any help. Thanks. In the meantime I was very pleasantly surprised by the bassman setting on JS Guitar/amp-model - yep, very surprised indeed. You can hear it in a mix here:

OK - time for details :-) It is my configuration of recording the bass. I am using different impulses to different songs. How I already mention a knob of phase is essential. Particularly when we are using impulses from various sources. For sound glue on the group of bass tracks I used the compressor and the simulation of the tape. It's a little improvisation with this configuration. My bass it,s the cheapest bass guitar on the market. China bass with precision pickup standard for 50$
Thank you Pete, that is very helpful indeed. I turned the drive right down and got a very usable sound (I prefer freeamp3 for a fender jazz/ampeg type growl). I still don't find Boogex very friendly to use though. The emphasis and cut filters are a bit obscure to me TBH - like I say, I am a bass player :o
