Removing Reverb

I have an interview scene for a doc I'm working on where the talents' voices are reverberating through the room. I've been trying to remove this natural reverb but nothing I've done works. C1 comp/gate, Q10, most everything I've tried with the Waves NPP bundle has little effect, or should I say everything IVE done hasn't worked. Has anyone found a way to succesfully remove natural reverb? Thanks

Believe it or not. This was the initial purpose of DSP. And the funding, which eventually spun-off Fairlight. Of course, the microphone was a laser (reflecting off a fogged-up window) It must have worked. Where you can actually get the algorithms, I don't know. Have you tried truncating the bits? i.e. recording only 12 of the 16 bits

such an effect really doesnt exist. Its like trying to make french sound like english.

There is a technique...Not sure what its called. I will try to briefly describe how it works. I have used it successfully a number of times and it works great. Steps: In Edit window. Highlight the mono audio track. Copy Track Paste mono audio track into new track. Invert 2nd audio track Pan both track either centered or hard pan to one side. At this point you will get a 100% Phase cancellation because tracks are 180 degress out of phase. Therefore will be silence. at this point you can do a number of things to cancel unwanted audio artifacts. 1. slip one track in time either forward or backwards. I do this incrementally while previewing audio for best effect. 2. Other means are either alter modulation of track or the pitch. The way it works is when you sum two idenitical signals which are 180 degrees out of phase there must be some measureable differnce in order to have audible signal amplified. Anything that is the same will be cancelled ie. Continuous broadband noise aritifacts.The difference which will be amplified in this case is the source material such as the voice on your track. I hope I have been helpful. Its a difficult effect to describe. Once you figure it out you will be very pleased.
