Oil usage

for some reason my car has started to use alot of oil. its a 1.8 with 201,000 miles on it, it used to use about 1L for 3k-4k but over the past few weeks its more like 2L for 1000 miles? no leaks or black smoke, just seems to have started to use more? any ideas?

Hi, The oil is going somewhere... You get any smoke from the back, under acceleration? Have you checked your coolant expansion tank or oil filler cap for Mayo? Do you have a drip tray and is it swimming in oil?? Have you compression tested the car? Des. . . ;)

Hi, Pressure in the crank case caused by a blocked crank case vent system can cause issues/problems. Including, I suspect, oil useage as the oil system is under undue pressure. So oil will go places it is not meant to.. So too the oil filler cap as that is meant to allow pressure release from the crank case.. Maybe try a new cap and a clean up of the vent system and flame trap and see if you have an improvement from that.. Des. . . ;)
