Optimizing a cellar for recordings

How secure would things be inside the cellar? Will you have to move your gear out or lock it away in something when you are done? Just in case you don't know, have a look at this and select acoustics and scroll down to Germany. I would suggest getting a book or two on acoustics/making a studio, before spending a lot of money to treat the acoustics. Also check the Internet for do it yourself solutions, and you can save yourself a lot of money and time.

moio, can you manage to make a guitar and a vocal recording rught now, untreated? Store this. I would like to be interested in an before/after comparison ;) Background: my very first attempts to treat my studio came out with WORSE vocals and almost unchanged acoustic guitar recordings... the I started reading books... meanwhile it is very good, though. @zappsunzorn: I guess it's halfway secure. But you're right, and I already thougt about that. I won't get all my stuff down there. Just my guitar amp and a desk, that'' be all. I'll take my laptop, my good ol' tascam and my mics down there every time a have a session. I can do the mixing in my room anyway ... @fab: thanks, I heard about thermohanf. Seems to be healthier than rockwool, too. I'll guess I'll build 2-3 movable walls so that I can arrange a little cabine, bass traps and cover some walls (and the floor) with old carpets ... @stupeT: Shure, I'll make an A/B-camparison :-) Cheers, M

leave out the carpet and you are all set. this will only kill some highs, not what you want. make thinner a "cloud" of thermohanf instead to cover reflective parts of the ceiling. unless you get cold feet, that is...
