Sony Oxford RTAS vs TDM

Why? If you have a TDM rig then you have 40 tracks because you have both whereas if you have a native you only have 20 tracks. right? I don't understand all this talk about native and not needing tdm etc. We'll have BOTH. I use RTAS on drums (or anywhere I'm worried about phase relationships since they have no delay) and TDM everywhere else. drew

During playback only not while tracking. Insert an RTAS plug on one track, insert the same plug only TDM on another. Command click on the numeric volume display in the edit or mix window on both and see the delay in samples incurred on each. The RTAS will say 0 and the TDM will be anywhere from 2-3 up to hundreds depend on the plug. drew

No. Actually the RTAS Plugins are deleycompensated during the playback, meaning that if you have insertet an RTAS Plug that has an actual delay of say 100 samples, the audiofile will be played back 100 samples earlier. A feature that I wished was there for TDM plugs aswell. daniel

You're right. Why are we using TDM plug-ins?

Because there's no (very little) delay during tracking and we have a known amount of dsp. I've been using this technique for a while and thought it was known. drew
