TOO MUCH RAM????

I am putting together my system. Asus P3b-F. PIII 700,Matrox G400 Dual video, Western Digital 7200 30 GIG x 2.BLA, BLA ,BLA. The Question is, I have 3 x 256 sets of RAM. How much is too much. Can you alocate in PT for windows, how much RAM to use?? I have been getting conflicting reports. Also, I ntend on booting WIN 98se with 5.1. PLEASE TELL ME THIS SYSTEM WILL ROCK.

I have heard that Windows98 SE can only use or recognize 256MB of RAM. Does anyone know if this true?

I've been running protools in 98se with 512 megs of ram, and I haven't had any slow-down by upgrading from 256 megs. It's been working great... no problems yet...

It's amazing how "logic" can be so illogical sometimes. I've got 512M and when I went from 256 to 512 I thought there might have been a bit of a slowdown. I convinced myself that it couldn't be, but now I have to check for sure! Thanks for the heads up. -Mike Pope

The problem arises when using MORE than 512Mhz in any Windows O.S. For a fix to this, please read my posting above.

You're absolututely right. Thanks for the CACHE. I have found that adding more BYTES really HERTZ. Incidently, I would still strongly recommend using the Cacheman 4.0 utility, even with the 512 MB. Windows is a hog without it.
