I'm waiting myself. I'm on HD3. There are no life changing differences in the software yet (that apply to me anyway), and it's working on 9.2.2 for me at the moment. I guess when I must upgrade I will but probably not until then, because it will probably require a new Mac for me...
Hey Justin, I don't have a HD system and don't use my PT rig for music production, but for radio stuff, which is a different beast altogether. I upgraded to PT6 as soon as possibe, since I love OSX so much. However, I'd caution you not to upgrade to OSX AND PT6 at the same time. You should get into OSX first, so you know how it works, how to maintain it, and how to fix it when things go wrong. OSX is a great OS, hardly ever crashes, and has a ton more flexiability than OS9 does. Sure you can wait for PT 6.1, but then as soon as it comes out, the borads will be overflowing with new problems and bugs. My advice is to make the change now, but keep your OS9-PT5x system in tact, so you work in PT5x and play and learn in PT6. Sooner or later, your giong to have to make the switch.. just as soon do it now.
Dude, Get in the game NOW, by installing OSX and PT6 on a separate hard drive (not partition). I installed the hard drive myself, and I'm not a computer geek by any means. Your Mac actually has a place that's just waiting for a new hard drive with all the cables included! Then you can just jump back and forth to your hearts content! I did this and have rarely got back to OS9 land, except for some MIDI stuff, but at least I"m able to get familiar with PT6 while still rockin' with PT5.3 (without confusing your DAE folder) Peace JC
One reason alone comes to mind: OS X rocks, OS 9 does not...oh, how about another reason: OS X is the future of all that is Mac (and computer based audio production), OS 9 is not...plus it's super stable... How about Core Audio/ Core MIDI? Looks good to me!
