have a listen got some new toys just getting the hang of them.... and any comments welcome they are more or less static pieces i've got loads of ideas for the tunes looking for comments on production mostly as incorporating new software has improved things - i think looking forward dave
First link: I like the "feel" of the rhythm tracks. Cool. Movie soundtrack-like. Second link: Hard to tell where you're going with this but the kick sound may or may not be good depending on what you do from there. Is that a drum machine or sampler? When you do midi or sampled kicks that do a double-tap (k-kick) you probably want to decrease the velocity of the first tap, like what you'd sometimes hear with a real drummer. As a general production rule with midi and/or drum samplers you want to pay close attention to velocity - intentionally varying it a little - as static patterns (with static velocities and timbres) can get redundant real quick. And using multisampled drums always helps.
What Im hearing sounds like it could be the start of some cool livetronic type stuff. Not exaclt 4 on the floor, but you could really go off on an electro jam to this bed. Production sounds clean and Im actually a big fan of bouncing the hats around the stereo field a bit. Sounds cool. I agree with the other comment about repetition. Though, Id add that I feel cool about repetitions rhythm tracks when there is plenty of color and diversity in the other instruments. Interested to see where this goes.
thanks for the comments.... it's good to get other ears on your stuff and i work in isolation so...... funny i used schwa's humaniser on the hats but not on the kix which are synthesised (the only samples are firebird+'s oscillators) i like that lowering velocity stuff it's like you know something but need reminding.... i also feel that repetition is ok as long as everything else is working hard so thanks Tallisman i'll take that as a complement :~) i don't know where i'm going with these as yet there's an element missing from the story i'm just trying to get a handle on which kit works best where i'l post more as i go thanks again dave
Kinda reminded me a bit of Eno's style without really sounding like Eno. I do a lot of prose writing as well as music, and the songs i heard are generally what i like to listen to when i'm in prose mode. Recordings are clear and well "produced." If these were 'unfinished,' i'd love to hear the complete product.
