I'm still trying to figure out cce, what I want to do is encode an avi movie I downloaded the other day but CCE won't except it.Can anyone tell me the easiet way to do this, what am I missing? Thanks in advance
I use TMPGenc to convert .AVI (divx) files to MPG1 or MPG2. You must save the audio as a wave file and then convert the video seperately. Then re-mux both files into one.
Encoding from an AVI should be easy, that's what CCE is meant to do. Start up CCE, right click on the white area, add the file, then double click on it and set your options... If it won't accept it check and see if the file will open and play in Media Player. If not you probably don't have the necessary codec. You need to get it (this happens all the time). If you downloaded it, the DivX codec is likely.

Hi Ravenew, it depends on what version you are trying to use - some AVI files rely on M$ DirectShow filters for playback and opening with encoders, and older versions of Cinemacraft were unable to utilise DirectShow filters to interpret files. As jdobbs pointed out, the first thing to do is make sure you have the relevant codec installed, but I would add, in light of the above, that you should use CCE 2.64 or above and see if this helps matters. CCE 2.50 still has many fans, but these users invariably use AVIsynth to frameserve to it, in which instance, DirectShow filters don't really have any relevance, in the specific sense which I described. N.B. Although you did post this in the DVD encoding forum, I feel this is more CCE-specific than DVD encoding, so I have taken the liberty of moving it to the CCE forum. Please repost and let us know how you get on. Regards, Arky ;o)

It depends on what kind of avi you are trying to encode. Once I tried to encode DV AVI, I needed to install DV Codec first before adding this file into CCE project otherwise it rejected.
Thanks to everyone for all the help. The movie played fine on windows media player. I'm going to give it another try now, will let averyone know how it comes out.
