I have been a long-time fan of the Focusrite RED series, very fat sound without using tubes. But I don't always want that kind of sound, sometimes I want something more subtle but still that warm Focusrite sound. The ISA series has been providing that for me. But the problem has been you only have the ISA220 and ISA430, single-channel strips. Although phenominal, multi-channel preamps only they aint! When Focusrite unveiled the ISA428 to me this past January, I was in awe...but even more so when I was told the retail was $1995 when I was sure it was going to be $2995. I already knew what they sounded like having lots of experience with the ISA220 and 430. As Roberts said, there isn't a pre out there that can touch it for the money. Nothing against the Presonus M80, Digipre, and the True Systems Precision8.... but the ISA428 has its own sound and character and is truly very affordable. When you look at the cost of competing 2-ch preamps and then the cost of the ISA428 with (4) pres... it truly is a bargain! In this industry, bargains aren't usually a great thing. In this case, it's a great thing.
