Monitoring Trauma...

hey all... I'm a new user of protools LE and my set up is as follows... G4 001 Clavinova MIDI IN to the Digi 001 MIDI OUT of the 001 into Roland JV-1080 In Midi record mode, when i play the clav to trigger the JV I can SEE that it's getting a signal but i can hear no sound. Same with playback of recorded midi (see but no sound). Question is how do I set up the cabling for monitoring? Is there anyone else who has a setup like this (using only the 001 for a midi interface?)

I recall having the same problem at first. Have you set the output of your midi protools mixer strip to point to the digi001 output? Also, do you have MIDI thru set (MIDI->MIDI Thru must be ticked)? And you must be in record mode. Anyone with any other ideas? Mike

Route the audio outputs of your synth into two inputs of the Digi001 (I would suggest inputs 3 & 4 so you can take advantage of the monitor mode). In Pro Tools, create a MIDI track and a Stereo Aux Track Set the Aux Track's input to coorespond with the input pair your synth's audio outputs are connected. Rec-enable the MIDI track, set its destination to a channel on your synth (select a desired patch) and raise the fader of the Aux Track. You can now rec MIDI data while monitoring the audio of synth within Pr Tools. Brent
