Headlight flash

hi ph try the fuse then try giving the wires a wiggle one the solenoid as its been a bit damp for our usual british weather it may have a bit of corosion giving a bad contact LOON

Hi, if you hear the 'clunk' then the relay is switching correctly, so the fault is indeed downstream from there to the headlights Steve

Im having the same problem Paul, so i wait for some advice with you.

The relay might be "clunking" but it might not be switching power to the lights. Check with a meter. Swap with another if you have one or open up this one and check it. Clean, resolder joints etc. They open up quite easily, you don't have to be too brutal.

No I don't think so although the wire from the dipper goes via the relay. It look as if one of the 3 relay tabs will have 2 wires to it. Relay looks as if it gets it's power from the bottom fuse, the one that serves the interior light. The flasher works regardless of the light switch position or whether the dip is on main or dip. Flasher also lights the blue main beam light. I assume it will still "clunk" the relay when main beams are on as it's actually powering up the relay, not the lights.

Checked all the connections to the various relays on the inner wing & all seemed fine but no joy when I tried to flash the lights. Next culprit was the large multi-connection block at the front of the inner wing. (Stu - this might also be the problem that you're having) Seems that the terminals were working a bit loose & when the two halves of the block are assembled, some of the wires are being pushed out the other side rather than connecting with the relevant terminal on the other side. Once assembled with all terminals definately connected, the headlights flashed :D Thanks again guys for all the advice etc! :)

I'm glad you've fixed it. A bit strange though as this connection is the only one for the main filament so should work, or not, for both flash and main beam. Electrics, don't you just love 'em. :)
